1. What is the difference between general anesthesia, sedation and local anesthesia?
Click here to our Blog in which we explain the difference between:
Any treatment or procedure is always performed in the day intake and we give anesthesia aimed at a day hospital stay. In other places, much deeper anesthesia is often used, but there is a greater risk of bleeding, thrombosis and nausea. Our patients are in a deep, comfortable sleep, they breathe spontaneously and we give pain relief. Every part of the body that is operated on is additionally anesthetized. We are proud to say that more than 95% of our patients have no pain after surgery.
2. DO I NEED TO STAY SOBER BEFORE SURGERY AND WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
Both in the operations under local anesthesia (with sedation) and under general anesthesia, you must be sober.
This means that you may not have eaten or drunk anything 6 hours in advance.
We will give you very clear instructions about this in advance. So don't forget to read your post-operative documents thoroughly.
3. Why do i have to remove my articial nails?
You should not wear acrylic or other types of artificial nails during surgery. This is necessary because the monitoring device is placed on the finger.
You are also not allowed to wear jewelry (earrings, rings, watch, ...). It is best to leave it at home. This also applies to piercings.
4. who will do my surgery in the global care clinic?
Is my surgery always performed by Plastic Surgeon Dr Nelissen or is it possible that an intern goes to work when I am under anesthesia?
All patients who come for consultation with Dr Nelissen are also operated exclusively by him. Dr Nelissen is present before, during and after the operation. After the operation, Dr Nelissen will also come and explain how everything went. And the checks are done by our team, where he is always present.
The Global Care Clinic also rents out the operating theatre to other plastic surgeons, but they bring their own patients for this.
5. Where will i WAke up after surgery?
Most patients already wake up in the operating room. When Dr. Nelissen places the last stitches, he tells the anesthesiologist that he is almost ready.
Afterwards you will be taken by our team to the recovery room, where someone will remain present to follow you up. Our recovery room is a pleasant, large space with several beds, where you have the necessary privacy because the curtains can be closed between the beds (if several patients are present at the same time).
And if you are well and fully awake, you have been able to drink a little bit, you will be dressed and then you can go home with your supervisor.
6. DO I HAVE TO STAY OVERNIGHT AT THE GLOBAL CARE CLINIC OR CAN I RETURN HOME?
As a pioneer, Plastic Surgeon Dr Nelissen, together with his anesthesiologist, has been applying Flash Recovery, a form of "Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS)", both in sedation and general anesthesia, for several years. This method is now also starting to gain popularity in other medical disciplines in public hospitals.
It is important that you as a patient are back on your feet as soon as possible. The recovery therefore preferably takes place in your own home environment under permanent contact with the team of the Global Care Clinic. All operations are performed in the Global Care Clinic in day admission.
For that reason, after discharge by the plastic surgeon and anesthesiologist, you can go home under supervision soon after the operation. It is important that you remain accompanied by an adult for at least 24 hours after surgery. However, you can contact Dr Nelissen at any time (24/7) in case of, for example, misunderstood pain, anxiety, redness or fever,... You will receive his mobile number on which you can call or whatsapp him.
7. can i drive home myself after my surgery?
No, both sedation and general anaesthesia do not allow you to drive yourself for at least 24 hours after the operation. It is also important that you remain accompanied by an adult for at least 24 hours after surgery.
8. WHAT IF I GET complicatiONS aFTER SURGERY AND I'M ALREADY HOME?
Then you should always call us directly. Everyone receives the mobile phone number of Dr Nelissen. If anything, you can always call or text him directly on his private number.
The evening of the operation you will always be called by someone from our team.
9. can i pay cash for my surgery so that my family doesn'T KNOW ABOUT IT?
We offer the following payment options:
- Bancontact
- Wire transfer
- Cash: pursuant to Belgian anti-money laundering legislation, cash payments
are only allowed under € 3,000.
Eventhough Dr Nelissen is not "conventioned", you will always receive a detailed clear price offer after your consultation, so that there can be no surprises about additional costs later.
- The first consultation with Dr. Nelissen costs € 50. If necessary, you may come for several consultations prior to your procedure at no extra cost. We think it is important that you are fully informed in advance.
- If you decide to have a treatment done, we ask a reservation fee of € 500 to confirm the reservation of the operating room, recovery room and the nursing staff. If you pay this amount on site immediately after your consultation (cash or bancontact), no consultation (€ 50) will be charged (unless in case of later cancellation). The reservation only becomes final upon receipt of this reservation fee.
- The treatment will only take place if the balance of the price (price minus the reservation fee already paid) has been received by us at least 2 weeks before the procedure.

In most cases, we recommend that you bring a friend or family to the consultation because you can also consult with someone. In addition, you will need a companion who will pick you up after the operation, take you home and accompany you.
