WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE WITH OTHER EPILATION METHODS? 

• Hair removal in the traditional manner, such as epilation with wax is often very painful and not permanent. It often also causes problems with ingrown hairs.
• Hair removal with flashlights (IPL-systems): These are not lasers (although it is sometimes referred to as a laser) but is only intensive flash light.  IPL flash is less effective because it uses light with different wavelengths. As a result, IPL flash light penetrates less deeply into the skin. Deeper hair roots then react insufficiently, so that the desired effect is not created. As a result, more treatments will be needed. IPL usually does not use a refrigerated head, which often makes it painful. 

Advantages of Diode laser

• As a result of the pure wavelength, no light is lost with the diode laser, increasing its effectiveness. Less treatments will be necessary, more cost efficiently. After 6 to 8 treatments 80% to 90% of the unwanted hair will permanently disappear. We notice in practice that most patients are satisfied after 3-4 sessions, not all hairs are permanently gone but you no longer suffer from that fast stiff hair growth!

• By using a cooled tip (head) and cooling gel, the treatment with a diode laser is very well tolerated. 

• The effectiveness of the diode laser has been scientifically proven. This device was elected by various medical and aesthetic professional journals as absolute standard for permanent hair removal.

• Diode laser is the only laser method approved by the U.S. Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) as a method of permanent hair reduction for all skin types. So also suitable for tinted and darker skin types.  

• The long term effect of diode lasers has been known for more than 30 years, IPL-systems only exist on the market since the 1990s.

• The quality of the diode laser is constant. The quality of IPL can vary depending on the fact if the lamps are new or have already been used several times. 

how does DIODELASER HAIR removal work? 

• The diode laser produces a highly concentrated beam of light with a certain wavelength.
• This light beam is put on the skin with a fraction of a second.
• The energy of the laser light is absorbed mainly by the pigment around the hair root. This causes the hair root cells to warm up and selectively be destroyed.
• In order not to damage the epidermis, the laser is equipped with a cooled tip. This makes it possible to deliver more energy and thus work more effectively without damaging the surrounding skin and the underlying blood vessels.
• The result is a painless and efficient hair removal!

Number of treatments

Each hair goes through three stages of growth (see picture):

• Active growth = anagen phase.
• Regressive phase = catagen phase. Period of 2 weeks, where an active hair turns into the resting phase.
• Resting phase = telogen phase. Period of about 6 weeks after which the hair will fall out spontaneously and a new growth cycle or active phase starts. 

The laser beam is the most active in the anagen phase (active growth). Because not all hairs are in the anagen phase at the same time, multiple treatments are necessary.

The ideal treatment regimen consists of 4 to 8 sessions:

• 4 sessions with 6 weeks interval,
• if necessary: 5th to 8th session with 2-3 months interval.

An optimal result is usually achieved in 1 year (or 2 winters).

Results vary from person to person. 6 to 8 treatments give an 80% to 90% hair removal for most patients. 

We always start with default laser setting to avoid complications or burns. If necessary, the laser settings can be adjusted higher and/or longer to optimize the result.

preparation

• 6 to 8 weeks prior to the first laser session, hairs may only be removed with shaving. Any kind of epilation/wax is best avoided during the entire treatment.

• Sunbathing (or tanning bed) is strictly not recommended during the entire treatment to avoid pigmentation spots.

• 2 days before you shave for the last time so that on your 1st treatment you have a stubble of +- 1mm (no longer!).

• If you have your armpits treated, it is best not to put deodorant on in the morning.
