BREAST IMPLANT REVISION
WHAT IS BREAST IMPLANT REVISION SURGERY?
A breast implant revision surgery is the surgery in which previously placed breast implants are replaced by new ones.
IN WHICH CASES IS A BREAST IMPLANT REVISION DONE?
Usually a breast implant revision is done for aesthetic reasons i.e. to improve the appearance of the breasts during this procedure, for example if:
- the patient also wants a certain lifting. In that case, the procedure can be combined with a breast lift. A common misrepresentation is that hanging breasts can be
improved by inserting a larger implants. Without a breast lift, this larger implant will do just the opposite, namely make the breasts hang even more.
- the pocket of the breast implant is remodulated internally so that the implant fits better.
It also occurs that an implant replacement is necessary for medical reasons, for example in the following cases:
- capsular contracture = excessive capsular formation (however, some capsular formation is normal)
- fracture or displacement of the implant
- "double bubble" = the appearance of a double fold because the own breast tissue sinks over the implant
- "rippling" = the appearance of visible implant edges under the skin.
- age of the implant = a breast implant is a medical 'device' and, just like a hip implant or other implants, has a limited shelf life. So it is recommended to have the implants overhauled and possibly replaced over time, just as this would be done for other medical devices.
WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR AN IMPLANT CHANGE?
- Implant change surgery is intended for patients who have had a breast augmentation in the past and are no longer satisfied with their implants or are concerned about the condition of their implants.
- This procedure can address these concerns by replacing the existing implants with new implants.
- In general, you can be a good candidate for remodeling breast implants in the following cases:
- You are not (anymore) satisfied with the size, shape or appearance of your breast implants
- You are concerned about the integrity or condition of your implants.
- Important for a smoother recovery is also that: You are physically healthy, do not smoke and are at a stable weight + You have realistic expectations: going "a little" bigger is not always the best option.
BEFORE AND AFTER PICTURES IMPLANT REVISION
- This patient had a breast augmentation with 380cc in the past (see top 3 photos). The implant was now replaced by a round implant of 240cc and the breasts were also lifted (see bottom photos).
- In this patient, the implants were enlarged from 265cc (top photos) to 345cc (lower photos).
PRICE BREAST IMPLANT REPLACEMENT
- Breast replacement is not a standard or routine surgery and should be specifically tailored to the patient's medical history and wishes. Exact pricing can only be done after the consultation.
- Among other things, it is checked whether or not a capsular correction is required and whether the initial breast augmentation took place with us.
COURSE OF YOUR TREATMENT
This procedure is done under general anesthesia by our anesthesiologist and under full monitoring of all vital parameters. The patient wakes up quickly after the anesthesia and can quickly leave the recovery after discharge by the plastic surgeon and anesthesiologist.
SIDE EFFECTS / POSTOPERATIVE COMPLICATIONS
This procedure has the same risks as any other operation. Read
more about the possible side effects here. The specific risks and possible complications are explained during the conversation with the plastic surgeon.
